| Day 13 - Bryce Canyon Rim, Canyon Weather |
March 24, 2002 |
I spent my first day at Bryce Canyon driving and hiking along the rim. The elevation
exceeds 9000 feet at the end of the drive, so with the storm front hanging in the area it
was awfully cold. But, the weather also make for some extraordinary views and a number
of beautiful, though challenging photo opportunites.
Despite the cold, I decided to spent the night camping in the park. I pitched my tent
just in time to receive shelter from a minor hailstorm. I was definitely pushing the limits
of my tent/sleeping bag temperature rating when the mercury dropped to 12 degrees, but by
cocooning myself, I made it throught the night in pretty good shape.
